Audio & Video Entry Systems

Possibly the most common form of door entry would be either an audio or video entry system. These are widely used on apartment, offices, private residences etc.

These systems work on the principle that the person wishing to gain entry to the premises has to initiate a call at the entry panel and a 2 way conversation takes place while the person within the premises decides whether or not to release the door. The door is usually controlled by an electric lock and the person within the premises releases the door using a button on their audio or video handset.

Audio and video entry systems are supplied in a host of shapes and sizes. They can have a single call button or a multiple of call buttons. Where there is a large amount of apartment the systems tend to become digital as this reduces the amount of buttons on the entry panel and the user calls the apartment by typing in the apartment number on the keypad.

Audio systems can be cabled so the apartment has a dedicated handset solely for the door entry system although it is possible to use the existing house telephones to reduce the amount cable at installation. It is also common where an office is concerned to interface the entry panel into the PABX (switchboard) system.

Video entry systems add the ability to actually see who is at the door before you decide to release it. A camera built into the entry panel is used to do this. Systems are available in colour or monochrome (black & white). It is possible to have a second camera viewing the area of the door or perhaps the car park that can be viewed from the video handset. It is also possible to have a video memory unit which can record an image of a person who called, along with time, whilst you were out of the property.
